1 · Who we are

Energy Makers Academy (EMA) is run by Open Energy Labs Ltd, 20-22 Wenlock Road, London N1 7GU, United Kingdom, working with partners in Kenya. We are the “controller” of the information described here. Contact: info@energymakers.academy.

2 · What we collect

When you reserve a kit (everyone):

• Name, email address, phone/WhatsApp number, and where you're based;
• How many kits you want, who they're for, what you want to do with them, how you prefer to pay, and how you heard about us.

If you ask about loan financing (only if you answer “Yes” to the financing question):

• Date of birth, employment and income details, monthly expenditure, housing situation;
• How you receive income, whether you can provide statements, which banks you use, current loans, and Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) history;
• Optionally, your National ID/Passport number and KRA PIN — you can always leave these blank and provide them to the bank directly instead;
• The amount you'd like to borrow, deposit, repayment period and method, and guarantor availability.

Our reservation form runs on Google Forms, so Google processes your submission on our behalf as a service provider.

3 · Why we collect it

• To manage your pre-order — hold your place in line, contact you at production notice, and arrange payment and delivery (necessary for the pre-order you've asked us to set up);
• To assess loan financing — if and only if you opted in, we share your finance-eligibility answers with partner banks so they can tell you whether they'd offer you a loan (based on your consent);
• To understand demand — aggregate, non-identifying analysis of reservations (our legitimate interest in planning production).

4 · Who we share it with

• Partner banks — your finance-eligibility answers only, only with your consent, and only so they can assess a loan for you. Any loan is then between you and the bank, under the bank's own privacy terms;
• Service providers — Google (forms, email, storage) acting on our instructions;
• Nobody else. We never sell your information.

5 · Where it's stored

Your answers are stored in our Google Workspace, which may process data outside Kenya and the UK. We handle your information under the UK GDPR and the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019, whichever gives you stronger protection.

6 · How long we keep it

• Reservation details: until your kit is delivered or your pre-order is cancelled, plus a reasonable record-keeping period;
• Finance-eligibility answers: deleted once the eligibility assessment is complete, and in any case within 12 months, unless you've gone on to take a loan with a partner bank.

7 · Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You can withdraw your financing consent at any time — we'll stop sharing with banks from that moment. Cancelling your pre-order costs nothing. For any of these, email info@energymakers.academy. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office or the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, Kenya.

8 · Age

Pre-orders and the financing section are for people aged 18 or over.

9 · Changes

If we change this policy, the current version will always be at this address, and we'll tell you about material changes before they affect you.
